With no dedicated macro lens I opted to create a reverse lens macro set up. To do this I used 70-210mm lens attached to camera (also use my 18-55mm lens to good effect), a 55mm to 52mm coupler ring, and a 50mm prime lens reverse mounted. The 50mm lens has its aperture opened wide manually and zoomed to infinity.
It helps using a tripod and macro rail to get the sharpest images, as there is a sweet-spot of focus that is difficult to attain if hand-held.
