With this image I wanted to capture reflections within reflections, the intent to capture this was planned in advance; the sunglasses were bought as a prop to specifically achieve this image and the Ladybower sink-hole was always going to be the subject. This image was captured at the end of the day, the sun was low, and using the subject (my daughter) to block shooting directly towards the sun meant that I could capture the sunlight as highlights to hair and skin. The surface of the water on the reservoir was mirror-like, and reflecting the wooded hillsides strongly and captured within the sunglasses vividly.
The image was post-processed to remove the reflection of my elbow from the very tip of the sunglasses. I used the clone-stamp (in the Gimp software) to erase this slight imperfection. Otherwise, this image is “as-shot”.
Captured with f/6.3, ensuring that the image around the subject was put out of focus and accentuating the in focus reflection in the sunglasses. The shutter speed here was 1/80th second. The image captures a reflection in the sunglasses as the naked eye would see it, the reflection is as good as the optical quality of the sunglasses lens.
